WE STAND ALONE

Lately it always seems
To be wet outside
And the dreariness of the day
Reminds me of the deep divide within me
And causes me to wonder
Where I'll be
A thousand years from now

Life giving elixir
We drink it every day
What's the minimum number
Of brain cells we need
To keep our sanity

There are yet things
To do and be
But pre-packaged vacations
Are not part of the equation

Sometimes it takes courage
To get up in the morning
And face the carcass
Of the day before

He hid his miracles
From the populace
Just as he hid
The feelings from his face

You look at patterns
In human conduct
And they are easy to see
But the motivations
Are not as apparent
And the blame is sometimes misplaced

To be both cynical
And naïve
To occupy both
Is something that
We must do
If we wish to look
Inward
In looking outward
It is best to be neither

We are not the multitude
We are a scattered few
We run not with the mob
We stand alone
